Story

Hey we’re Sean and Sharan: founders of Intelligere Wealth, best mates, financial planners and all around decent humans, at least that’s what people say about us :)

We worked together at a fairly large suburban financial planning practice for over a decade, before practicing what we’ve been preaching to our clients for years — follow your bloody dreams! We both share a significant number of similar values, personally and professionally. Intelligere Wealth is the culmination of this like-mindedness. We planned this ‘venture’ for close to 5 years, before our dream finally came true in 2020 (of all years!). Our goal is simple — go home after work feeling nothing but contentment and happiness. No regrets and no clash of values.

We firmly believe that financial advice is NOT the distribution of various financial products. Strategy is everything. We’re a flat fee firm. No commissions, no hidden agenda.

Ethos

Intelligere Wealth is and always will be a boutique financial planning practice, where the founding partners will continue to advise our clients on how to get from ‘A’ to ‘B’.

We both realised a few years into the profession that we’re ‘lifetime financial planners.’ We have no aspirations of grandeur to open 5 offices in 5 cities in 5 years and run a team of 50 while only working ‘on the business’ as opposed to ‘in it.’ We absolutely love what we do — strategising and creating financial plans for clients with ever changing goals and lifestyles.

Behind our name

The English word intelligence stems from the Latin root word intelligere, meaning ‘to understand’. The mantra of Intelligere Wealth is rooted in understanding you, your wants, needs, concerns and most importantly, your why.

Our paradigm expands as things once misunderstood become clearly defined. The possibilities in life branch outward as the dots are connected and their patterns revealed.

In 1202, Italian mathematician Leonardo Pisano (also known as Fibonacci) came upon a mathematical sequence in his thought experiment trying to ascertain how many pairs of rabbits can be produced from a single pair of rabbits in one year. The sequence goes: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34 and to infinity. Adding each number to the number on its left, famously known as the Fibonacci sequence. At first glance, Fibonacci’s sequence may just provide some insight into the breeding habits of rabbits! However, over the years humans have discovered the sequence frequently appears in nature.

Many flowers and branches express the sequence in their growth points. A tree trunk (1) produces a single branch (1,1), followed by a second branch (1,1,2). Then the trunk and the first branch produce two more growth points, resulting in 3 growth points (1,1,2,3) and so on. If you measure the ratio of female honeybees to male in many colonies, the ratio is exactly derived from the Fibonacci sequence. Take the human body. If you divide the height of your torso by your total height, you see the same ratio. Our DNA molecules also follow this sequence.

The Fibonacci Sequence, also known as The Numbers of Nature, connects the man made world of mathematics and finance to our natural world. Our logo, the Fibonacci Tree, branches out in this famous sequence, symbolising the interconnectedness.

The art and science of financial planning is to intimately connect the narrative between the calculated world humans have created and the real world we seek to maximise enjoyment and happiness from.
