Sharan Sheth

Co-director at Intelligere Wealth

Hey I’m Sharan, co-founder of Intelligere Wealth, big dog lover, Manchester United tragic, Mexican food consumer (almost daily) and adviser to my beloved clients. I grew up in Mumbai (then Bombay), a city of 25 million. I was raised solo by mum, and we faced a few challenges the first 15 odd years of my life, which only brought us closer. She bought a smartphone a few years ago and we can finally video chat!

I moved to Brisbane after graduating uni. Leaving mum behind was both difficult and easy - we both knew this was something I had to do. Funnily enough we still talk everyday but argue a lot less! The move to Australia was always meant to be permanent, but it was more of a ‘the grass is greener’ outlook. Of course, I fell in love with the place and the people. Over the years I’ve found the most amazing group of friends, who are my family now. We spend ‘orphans Christmas’ together every year with many of our families either overseas or interstate.

My thoughts on financial advice

Starting in financial planning in 2009, oh how things have changed since. To think that the legal profession has its roots in ancient Roman and Greek times and Accounting as a profession was recognized in the 1800’s (been around a lot longer than that), I view financial advice as an infant in its journey towards sustained professionalism. What a wonderful ‘job’ it is though. Financial planning is intimate. I like maths and problem solving. I like people. I like their stories. Financial planning lets me complete the narrative. The feeling of actually seeing a client achieve a goal - something we planned for, something we worked together on - is a genuinely wonderful feeling. It is so satisfying.

Why it fits

My close friends know that when I travel abroad, food and drink are my top priorities. What I really love though is talking to locals over food and drink. Hearing their stories, asking questions about their history, experiences, joys and pains - and doing it over a great meal. I’m not shy. I think if you ask someone a question about themselves with genuine curiosity, most people will answer with equal gusto. I found a career where I can be curious about the way the world moves and what makes people happy/sad/calm/concerned. This makes me happy.
